How to Use a Portable Air Compressor

An air compressor takes air at atmospheric pressure and delivers it at a higher pressure. This compressed air is used to power small tools and to fill vehicle tires. Using these tools with quick connects makes changing from one tool to another even quicker. Portable air compressors are easy to move from one place to another. Although air compressors are pretty straightforward to operate, you must follow certain procedures to prevent serious injury.

Things You¡¯ll Need:

  • Power receptacle
  • Air hose and accessories
  1. 1

Locate the air compressor near an electrical outlet and at least 12 inches away from the wall or other obstruction. Plug it in.

  2. 2

Place the On/Auto/Off lever in the "Off" position and turn the regulator counterclockwise all the way.

  3. 3

Attach your hose and accessories to the air compressor and turn the On/Auto/Off lever to the "On" position. Allow the air compressor to run until the tank is fully pressurized. It will then automatically shut off.
